Tax allowance transfer - can we do this as my wife is a non-tax payer?

Question:

My wife and I are both retired. She is a non-tax payer and I do receive the marriage allowance. Could there be any way that she can transfer her allowance to me? I do not know my income for 2017-18 but it will be slightly higher than my income after tax for 16-17 which was £20183.86.

Arthur Weller replies:
Your wife can elect that £1,150 of her personal allowance be transferred to you, reducing your income by this amount, and saving tax at 20%. However, married couples entitled to claim the married couple's allowance (available when at least one spouse was born before 6 April 1935) cannot make this transfer.
