If I use my inheritance money to buy somewhere to live in, am I liable to pay capital gains tax (CGT) on my inheritance?
Arthur Weller replies:
If you use your inheritance money to buy somewhere to live, there should be no CGT when you eventually sell the property. But this has not got anything to do with the fact that you bought the property with inheritance money. You should not pay any CGT because you lived in the property as your main residence, and so it will be eligible for principal private residence relief.
